Uber for the Rest of Us

Okay, it's time for some real talk about the uber infestation of the world. But first, let me go on record saying that I am all for the sharing economy. I love AirBnB, I take uber and Lyft as often as I can. I share my own creative works to be reused and spread around the world...

However. I'm concerned with what this is doing to our communities. Now we have terrible drivers increasing their time on the roads. This is dangerous for all of us.  Now, I get it that uber is very strict about ratings and if you drop below the rates, you're out of their program. BUT it seems to me that this is missing a huge part of the community--namely, it is missing other drivers, bicyclists and most importantly pedestrians input into this rating system. If these drivers act like absolute fucking maniacs in between customer pickups, we are all left holding the bag. With cab drivers and taxis there was a sense of obligation because their company information is plastered across their vehicles. Sure they're still assholes a lot of times because they can get away quickly. But I'm cut off by so many crazy uber drivers that I'd like to report...but can't. I was nearly run over by FOUR different uber prius minions on a two-block section outside of Caltrain in San Francisco. Bullshit. Next time I'm stopping. Taking a photo of their plate and I will contact uber directly. I'm not playing anymore.

Further, it's just encouraging MORE phone use of drivers! Do we really need that!? Of all of the four silent-killer cars mentioned above, all of them were sidetracked looking at their phones for their next little nugget.  Riding as a passenger, I once had to scream at a Lyft driver (in a prius, of course) that was one moment from running over a pedestrian because he had no idea where he was going and was looking at his phone for every turn. I face planted the back of the front seat to save that pedestrians legs.

And lastly, I think they need to do some serious app usability testing, especially with intoxicated people because I CANNOT use the app when I am not completely sober. Useless. They can't find where to pick me up. I can't "set my location" or I order a special edition leather blacked out Mercedes for the 4 minute ride to the train...
